I got an email yesterday from Amazon that my copy of soccer legend Abby Wambach’s new book, WOLFPACK: How to Come Together, Unleash Our Power, and Change the Game, is on it’s way!

Abby first came to my attention with her keynote address to the Class of 2018 at Barnard.

If you haven’t seen it, watch it. You’ll be inspired.

Then Abby showed up again today in my inbox in an interview with Marie Forleo.

Among the many powerful quotes from this interview was when she said, “If we keep playing by the old rules, we will never change the game.”

I love this!

I know that you don’t have to change who you are to get what you want.

By learning more effective ways to say what you want, to listen to the other person without shame or judgement, to be genuinely curious so you can keep thinking clearly instead of getting crushed by you emotions….that’s changing the game for you.

You can change the rules you don’t like at work regardless of your power and position.

I remember when my best friend from high school got a job at Dell computer right after college. She’s super smart and fast, she’d finish her work and leave at 5 on the dot. Her boss and others criticized her for leaving “early.” She stood her ground, showing proof that she had finished for the day, she exceeded her sales quota, so what was the problem? She was changing the game.

There is so much gold in this interview with Abby and Marie. I’m expecting the book in the mail today (if you’ve watched my videos, you know I still read paper copies as you’ve seen my library in the background!), so I’ll be writing more about it in the next few weeks.

If you’re reading it, too, let me know!

Warmly,
Melissa
