I’m going to make the joke…how’s your 2020 vision?! For 2020?! I have a teenager, so I get all the memes and this one has been on the top for weeks now.

And yes, it’s 2020
As a thoughtful person, wishing to be more intentional about your life and wanting MORE…whatever your MORE is, it’s that fresh start that you love, that you crave, that drives you to make resolutions year after year.
Over my last 2 emails, we’ve dug into the concepts of reframing your goals and breaking them down into smaller, more manageable steps (Small steps toward your big goals, click HERE to catch up) and the 3 simple steps to help you zone in to what matters most to you, including how you want to FEEL in 2020 (read that one HERE: Goal setting vs Soul setting).
Today, let’s take a few minutes to do some dreaming.
Look back
When you look back at you last decade, you can see the big things more clearly. Your look back may sound like…
- In the last 10 years, I got married, had 3 kids and moved twice.
- In the last 10 years, I went from an entry level job to a manager role.
- In the last 10 years, I left my corporate job, started a business and am now making money in that business.
These are big things that get lost in the minutia of daily life.
If you haven’t done as much as you thought you would by now, looking at a decade will help you appreciate where you are and may light a fire under you to make changes that will get you closer to the life YOU WANT.
If you think you’re too old to go back to school or change something big in your life or your work, remember that you’ll be 5 years older in 5 years whether you make that change or not.
So maybe it’s worth it?
Look forward
After looking back, your perspective on what comes next may feel different.
What does your next decade look like?
- In the next 10 years, all my kids will be done with all academics.
- In the next 10 years, I will have finished my degree and be a certified nurse/psychologist/coach/fill in your dream.
- In the next 10 years, I will move to a quieter/smaller/larger home.
An idea for structure
If you’re not sure where to focus, use these categories:
- Work
- Family
- Health
- Fun
Take a piece of paper and draw a + on the page. Put one topic in each of the 4 quadrants. Then dream big, write out what your life will look like in each of these 4 categories over the next decade.
I’d love to hear what you came up with!
Hit reply and let me know how this exercise went for you.
Want more inspiration? Do it with a friend or your family. Compare notes.
Laugh, scream, go a little crazy to make your life the one you DREAM OF!
Warmly,
Melissa
